Microdermabrasion* uses manual exfoliation to remove the top layer of skin. Ideal for clients who have textural issues with their skin- crows feet, lip lines, stubborn blackheads around the nose, acne scarring, sun damage. Collagen production is boosted, and skin is firmer with better tone. Series of 6, $510 Michelle has received additional certification and training beyond what is required to hold an esthetics license to administer microdermabrasion.
(Please note that microdermabrasion will not be administered before an in-depth consultation
has been performed to determine if this service is right for you.)
Microdermabrasion Q & A
Q. What is Diamond Microdermabrasion?
A. Diamond Microdermabrasion uses a wand tip made of natural laser-cut diamond chips to polish the skin and remove dead cells that are vacuumed into a waster filter. Wands of various sizes and coarseness are used on different parts of the face or body. Traditional microdermabrasion uses a hand-held device to propel a high-speed flow of aluminum oxide crystals onto the skin while the machine's vacuum system sucks away the dirt, dead cells, and crystal residue. Diamond Microdermabrasion and traditional microdermabrasion achieve the same result, overall. HOWEVER, areas closer to the eyes and mouth can be abraded more accurately with diamond microdermabrasion, as there is no risk of getting crystals into the eyes or nasal passages.
Q. What will microdermabrasion do for my skin?
A. Overall, microdermabrasion reduces the appearance of wrinkles and acne scars, clear up blackheads and clogged pores, reduce the appearance of sun damage, and even out skin tone. Microdermabrasion boosts collagen production to provide firming and toning to the skin.
Q. What happens during a treatment?
A. Before the actual treatment, skin is cleansed and toned. Most technicians will provide the treatment, moisturize you and send you home. Michelle applies a cooling mask post-treatment and applies a serum under moisturizer and sunscreen. The mask and serum are determined based on the goals of the treatment program. Massage cannot be performed due to the tenderness of the skin.
Q. What can I expect after the treatment?
A. Because microdermabrasion is non-invasive, there is no real downtime. You can expect to have some redness for 2-4 hours after the treatment and a degree of tenderness of the skin when touched. Foundation and powder are not recommended for 24 hours after treatment. Clients will want to take care to hydrate with an appropriate moisturizer and wear a sunscreen of at least 30 for the next 48 hours. Post- treatment care will be discussed after each session.
Q. How many treatments do I need?
A. Like any non-invasive, non-surgical cosmetic procedure, one treatment may not provide instant results. This is why it is important to have a series of services, whether it's peels or microdermabrasion. Treatments are performed in a series of 6 spaced 7-10 days apart. From that point, the client will want to receive a treatment every 4-6 weeks for best maintenance.
Q. Can anyone have microdermabrasion?
A. No. There are a number of contraindications for microdermabrasion. This is why Michelle will not perform microdermabrasion on a new client without a full consultation or on an existing client without a review of current health status, medications list, or recent cosmetic procedures.
